Olympic Games

Welcome back, ISAAC English readers! Hope everyone is doing well in the heat.

TOPIC: Olympic Games (オリンピック)

As this year's Summer Games are coming to a close, here is a small lesson on the background of the Olympic Games.
The Olympics as we know it, started taking shape (具体化する) from the late 18th Century, and the first modern Olympics is given credit to (認められる) the 1896 Summer Olympics.
However, the Olympics originally began more than 2700 years ago in Ancient Greece.
The actual origin of the Games are not known, but common myth (神話) identifies the figure Heracules as the creator with the first recorded Olympics being 776BC.
The Games continued for close to 1,000 years until the Romans gained power in Greece and eliminated (除去する) the Olympics as well as other pagan (異教徒) practices.
It wasn't until the late 19th Century when a man by the name of Pierre de Coubertin, who founded the International Olympic Committee, instigated (〜を推進する) the revival (復活) of the Olympics,
and we now have what we know as the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

TIP: Exercise

Coubertin believed that physical education (体育) played a key role (重要な役割) in education and the development of a well-rounded (円満な) person.
We may not all be Olypmic athletes, but we can all do some exercise and enjoy the benefits it brings.
Everyone already knows exercise helps control your weight and improves health conditions, but it also boosts energy and helps you sleep better.
You don't have to run a marathon each time you exercise, but even 90 minutes of exercise a week will have you feeling better physically, mentally, and emotionally.
